Cheah Kongsi Interpretation Centre
We developed George Town’s first Heritage Interpretation Centre.
In 2013, we were engaged to transform the Cheah Kongsi (or clan house) into an engaging and immersive Interpretation Centre. The Cheah Kongsi, which is located within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of George Town, Penang, Malaysia, has been home to the Cheah clan since its migration from China to Malaysia in the 18th century.

We worked closely with the Cheah clan to develop designs that respected the heritage values of the site and to ensure interpretation responded to and enhanced these values. We also collaborated with key stakeholders and employed Malaysian artists and designers to develop a distinctive, culturally appropriate vision for the site. Our work included interior, exhibition and display design and interactive digital media elements and the installation of all elements.
