47 McIntyre Road Heritage Interpretation Plan & works

We used interpretation to reveal the hidden histories of 47 McIntyre Road, Sunshine.

In 2017, Woolworths Group announced plans to redevelop a factory site into a Dan Murphy’s store. The former Wunderlich factory in the western Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, Victoria, made architectural ceramic products including terracotta facing and asbestos cement wall and roof sheets. Many of the products made here adorn Melbourne’s buildings.

We worked closely with Brimbank City Council to design a large interior photomontage and entranceway that provide a striking representation of the history of the site. This was complemented by exterior interpretive signs that would inform the public of the site’s historic significance.
