Australian Catholic University Heritage Interpretation Plan & works

We created a striking interpretive suite that celebrates the Former Note and Stamp Printing Department in Fitzroy.

In 2018, SHP was engaged to develop a Heritage Interpretation Plan for the Mary Glowrey Building at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Fitzroy, Melbourne. The building had operated as the Note and Stamp Printing Department from 1924 until 1981 and was where all Australian stamps, banknotes and other secure items were printed.

ACU was developing the Former Note and Stamp Printing Department as an extension to its Fitzroy campus and sought our expertise to communicate the site’s rich and important heritage to university staff, students and visitors. Our concept designs included over 20 custom artworks to be transferred onto bronze plaques. The Heritage Interpretation Plan, including concept designs, was approved by Heritage Victoria with no changes.

SHP was then awarded Stage 2 of the contract, which involved printing the signs, fabricating the bronze plaques with custom artworks and installing all interpretive elements. We located the plaques in the streets surrounding the Mary Glowrey Building, working closely with suppliers to oversee installation and ensure compliance with Heritage Victoria permits.

Throughout both project stages, we collaborated effectively between the client and project architects, Heritage Victoria and Traditional Owners groups.
