City of Melbourne Heritage Interpretation Scoping Study

We undertook a Scoping Study to propose a best practice approach to interpreting the City of Melbourne’s rich First Nations heritage.

In 2023, SHP was engaged by the City of Melbourne to conduct a Scoping Study for a Heritage Interpretation Strategy. Our work involved liaising with the area’s Traditional Owners, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, to identify how to integrate First Nations histories with the City of Melbourne’s existing and future heritage interpretation.

We prepared a report that outlined a methodology for consulting with Traditional Owners, as well as key principles that should be observed when developing future interpretation. Our report also included case studies, both within Australia and international, of best practice examples of heritage interpretation.
