Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area 'Sprayground'

This exciting project uses play to show children the unique values of one of Australia’s natural treasures.

The Ningaloo Reef World Heritage site on the north coast of Western Australia is an amazing habitat for marine reptiles, fish and mammals. In 2015, we were asked to develop some new themed playground equipment and a series of children’s signs to interpret the Outstanding Universal Values of Ningaloo Reef. These were featured in a ‘Sprayground’ – a water-based playground.

Aimed at children under 12, our signage features cartoon characters who explain why the reef is important and what they would see there if they explored the world under the sea. Themed playground equipment reinforces World Heritage themes and also encourages children to care for Ningaloo Reef.
