North Melbourne Primary School Interpretation

We worked with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders to interpret Traditional Owners’ cultural knowledge through a series of installations at the new primary school campus.

SHP was engaged to work with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Corporation (WWCHAC) to include Traditional Owners’ history and culture in the design of North Melbourne Primary School’s new vertical campus.

We worked collaboratively with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders, architectural and construction teams to facilitate understanding of project methodology and Traditional Owners’ wishes. We worked with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders and artist Ash Firebrace to co-create a large-scale mural that represents the Layers of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country across the levels of the school. This is complemented by additional window graphics featuring the story of the emu and a series of plaques for each level of the school.
