Rocky Point Lookout

We created a series of signs and art installations that invite visitors to explore their surroundings.

In 2013, we were commissioned to develop interpretation for a new lookout at Rocky Point, at Torquay on Victoria’s surf coast. The brief was to represent the complex process of how the land, sea and wind interact to produce the landform known as ‘Rocky Point’ in an easy-to-understand way. To achieve this, we designed two raised concrete sculptures that conveyed the underwater land formations that are a feature of Rocky Point, interpretive signs containing infographics, and a series of groundbased installations with evocative and impressionistic text. In combination, all these interpretive elements as a ‘hook’ for visitor engagement. We worked particularly hard to ensure that this interpretation did not compete with Rocky Point’s stunning natural features and views.
