St Mary’s Hall Interpretation Plan and works

We produced award-winning heritage interpretation for this much-loved church in the heart of Geelong.

St Mary’s Hall was an important place for Geelong’s Catholic community for over 100 years. Built in 1892, the site was home to St Mary’s School until 1918 and hosted concerts, dances and
meetings throughout its history. CEHL planned to convert St Mary’s to a mixed-use development with affordable housing, accommodation for health care, a public health library, a café and a Community Hub.

SHP’s scope of works involved liaison with the heritage architects and Heritage Victoria to ensure interpretation met heritage permit requirements. In response, we developed a sign and a large-scale interior mural to celebrate this legacy. Our work at St Mary’s Hall received the Geelong Heritage Award in 2017.
