Why would you engage SHP?
If you want to add value to your project, get tourists to stay longer and have deeper experiences then we can help. If you have an idea for a heritage museum or visitor attraction, then we can guide you through the process to make it become a reality.
"We have a very challenging project to re-position a former 19th century prison complex into a thriving residential community with a retail/tourism/leisure precinct core. The site's history and former use do not lend themselves well to the future uses but SHP has found a way of interpreting the site's past and integrating it with the new public realm and future buildings in subtle, sensitive, fun and interactive ways thereby contributing to the site's future place making characteristics and re-positioning it as a new destination precinct in Melbourne. Heritage Victoria has been very impressed by the interpretive concepts and we couldn't be happier getting our permits in record time."
Anna Martiniello, Shayher Group
What is interpretation?
‘Every person has experienced a piece of interpretation or has a piece of interpretation in their home’.
Heritage interpretation communicates the values and significance of natural and cultural heritage places to a range of audiences.
What do we do
We plan, create and implement interpretive experiences for clients and visitors.
Where do we do it
In cities and suburbs, World Heritage and other heritage sites, historic buildings, real estate developments, parks, gardens, marine environments, museums, zoos and aquaria.
How do we do it
Through interpretation plans, Visitor Centres, apps, site-based interpretation, websites, publications, films, exhibitions, signs, heritage trails, sculptures, public art, wikis, playgrounds, multimedia and heritage-themed installations.
Why we're different
SHP is one of the few companies to position heritage interpretation at the forefront of each job, so that the site’s values and significance inform all aspects of the work. Each project is customised to the client’s needs.
International work
SHP has been working internationally since 2011, when Sue Hodges gave a series of lectures and workshops for museums, universities and heritage and NCOs in Slovenia and Croatia. SHP staff have participated in four Victorian government trade missions to India and an Austrade mission to Seoul, Korea, for the 2018 Peong Chang Olympics. This year we will be travelling to Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Korea and Europe.
Current and recent international work includes a Heritage Interpretation Masterplan for the George Town UNESCO World Heritage site in Penang, Malaysia (2013), interior design and an interpretive installation for The Star newspaper group in Penang (opening August 2014) and an Interpretation Centre for the Cheah Kongsi in George Town (opening December 2014).
